Welcome to FLEMING SEEDBANK

The Fleming College Seedbank was conceived in 2018 with a mission to enhance regional native plant populations through coordinated seed collection, distribution, conservation and propagation with our community/industry partners to support biodiversity goals in local restoration efforts. Currently, our seedbank consists of both living specimens and seed storage and includes a 0.8 acre designated tree seed orchard, 100m2 of designated understory plant seed gardens and the 2.5 ha Fleming College Arboretum. The seedbank contributes to the reforestation, restoration, and naturalization of areas on Fleming’s 60 ha Frost Campus property, provides hands-on learning opportunities for multiple programs to meet specific course requirements and learning outcomes, preserves native species, creates habitat, improves biodiversity and contributes to climate change mitigation in the Kawartha Lakes.
